HAROLD HUNTER DAY IV RECAP

On Sunday afternoon, October 10th, the collective NYC skate community converged on the L.E.S. Skatepark for Harold Hunter Day IV.

Produced by the non-profit Harold Hunter Foundation, the annual event was held to honor the legacy of New York icon and renowned skateboarder, Harold Hunter.  HH Day IV was made possible through generous support and donations from Zoo York, CCS, DVS, Camp Woodward, Red Bull, and Harold’s many friends.

A crisp fall morning followed by warm afternoon sunshine ushered in this year’s event, which was the largest HH Day ever with close to a 1,000 skaters and spectators in attendance.  A vast majority of attendees participated in the skate jam that ran from 1-5pm and featured two best trick contests, live music from DJ Smoke L.E.S. and friends, appearances by local pros, and several large product tosses that included 2 gift certificates for a complimentary one-week session at Camp Woodward next summer.

Once the skate jam was a wrap, an all-ages happy hour was held at the Lower East Side cafe/art gallery, Panda NYC.  The casual get-together featured a Harold video retrospective by RB Umali, and photo montage by Paul Park and Akira Ruiz.

HH Day IV also marked the official launch of the limited edition DVS x HHF Shoe Series featuring classic Harold photos by Giovanni Reda.  Now available here and at select shops nationwide, DVS will donate proceeds from the sale of these exclusive shoes to the HHF to help further its mission of using skateboarding as a vehicle to provide inner-city youth with valuable life experiences that nurture individual creativity, resourcefulness and the development of life skills.

Thanks to all the sponsors, skaters, volunteers and especially the great city of New York for making HH Day IV such a memorable event.  See ya next year!
