On Saturday afternoon, November 12, 2011, the 5th Annual Harold Hunter Day went down at the LES Skatepark in Manhattan.

Organized and run by the non-profit Harold Hunter Foundation (HHF), with support from primary sponsors Zoo York, Vans, HBO and Camp Woodward, HH Day V once again united the collective NYC skate community for a positive day of shredding in honor of the late, great Harold Hunter.

The annual event also served as a fundraiser for the Harold Hunter Foundation to support its mission of using skateboarding as a vehicle to provide inner-city youth with valuable life experiences that nurture individual creativity, resourcefulness, and the development of life skills.

An all-ages skate jam ran from 1-5pm with roughly 1,000 skaters and spectators swarming the skatepark all afternoon. DJ Smoke LES provided the beats, 5boro’s Steve Rodriguez was the event MC, and plenty of renowned skaters were on the scene including Nardelli, Chaz Ortiz, Brandon Westgate, Zered Bassett, Eli Reed, Nolan Lee, Billy Rohan, Rob Campbell, Danny Falla, Jimmy McDonald, Joe Tookmanian, Luis Tolentino, Rodney Torres, Chad Muska, and many others.

The “Best Trick” contest was held on the pyramid in the center of the skatepark, and everyone was definitely going for it. When it was all said and done, Shane McGrane was named the winner and took home the grand prize: a one-year supply of apparel from Zoo York. Immediately following Shane’s win, a massive product toss took place with loads of stickers, t-shirts, hats, decks and other promo gear scooped up by the crowd.

Once the skate jam was a wrap, the 21+ crowd headed to Max Fish on Ludlow Street for an after-party with live beats provided by DJ Smoke LES and friends. Check out pics from the after-party on Alex Corporan’s blog.

Harold Hunter Day V was made possible through generous support from event sponsors Zoo York, Vans, HBO, Camp Woodward, Supreme, Cottonmouth, ProSport Wellness, SHUT, Paradox, BONES Wheels, Bones Bearings, With A Mouse Design, 5boro Skateboards, Prographix, The Professionals: NYC Sound Company, and the collective New York City skateboard community.

Huge thanks to all the sponsors, skaters, volunteers, and especially the great city of New York, for making HH Day V such a memorable event.  LEGENDS NEVER DIE!

And a shout out to all the media outlets that ran post-event stories on HH Day V including Transworld Skateboarding, Thrasher, Skateboarder, NYskateboarding, Push.ca, Hypebeast, Radcollector, Mashkulture, 48 Blocks, Lat34, and many more. Thanks for your support!
